The Norwegian Sundial Site
This site was made to give an introduction to sundials in Norwegian. The description of different kinds of sundials and the mathematics of sundials might be found in English elsewhere on internet. The only page that will be translated to English is the list of sundials in Norway.
The logo of the pages reflects how my interest of sundials started: as a phenomenon where you find conical sections. With my education is in physics and astrophysics I decided sundials might be an interesting hobby - as it turned out to be.
The contents of the Solursida is:
- List of sundials in Norway in Norwegian and English
- Links to sundial sites elsewhere (Norwegian text, but mostly links to English sites)
- Description of some kinds of sundials (Norwegian only. The "sub-page" Andre typer solur have links to sites of different languages)
- Sundials and time (Norwegian only)
- Astronomical and other unusual dials (Norwegian only)
- Make a sundial (Norwegian only, but contains at present only a link to Sundials on the Internet)
- Sundials and mathematics (Norwegian only)
- Sundials in schools (Norwegian only)
- Some books (Norwegian text, but mostly English books)
The Solursida site is part of the internet site of Nordnorsk vitensenter, the Science centre of Northern Norway. Nordnorsk vitensenter is located in Tromsø at 69.66N 18.94E. The science centre has no sundial of its own (yet). You might find some more information on Nordnorsk vitensenter in English here.
